Mark Diederichs presents CGS Hardy Keynote Lecture

Prof. Mark Diederichs presented an outstanding Hardy Keynote Lecture in September 2021 at GeoNiagara 2021, the 74th Annual Conference of the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS).

The title of the lecture was “Underground construction in complex rock environments: Promises and pitfalls of observational design“.

Established in 1987, the Hardy Lecture is typically delivered at the opening of the CGS Annual Conference by a selected well-known senior member from the local CGS Section where the CGS Annual Conference is being held.

The RM Hardy Keynote Address honours Dr. Robert (Bob) M Hardy (1905-1985), a distinguished Canadian geotechnical engineer and educator, and former dean of Engineering at the University of Alberta.
